Germany’s Federal Railway Authority (EBA) has certified Alstom’s NBT high-speed slab track solution for testing.

EBA has given NBT “Approved for operating testing” status, which means the solution can now be trialled in an operational setting.

NBT has been designed for use on a mixed-traffic railway up to speeds of 360 km/h. It is based on the Appitrack solution used by Alstom for light rail and metros which has been deployed on projects around the world.

Alstom has worked alongside the TÜV (TÜV Rheinland InterTraffic GmbH / ACR – Assessment & Certification Rail Office) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to gain the approval.

NBT was first used to install a kilometre of double-track railway on France’s Gisors-Serqueux main line.
