Chinese JVs win Bangladesh new line contracts

THE Bangladesh cabinet approved the awarded of contracts on August 23 for lots 1 and 2 for the construction of a 108km dual-gauge single-track railway linking Dohazari and Cox’s Bazar to two Chinese joint ventures, as they were the lowest bidders.

The two joint ventures are CT which bid Taka 26.87bn ($US 300m) for Lot 1 and CCECC Max which bid Taka 32bn for Lot 2.

 

Lot 1 covers the section from Dohazari to Chakaria as well as computer-based interlockings and telecommunication for the entire line, while Lot 2 cover the Chakaria - Cox’s Bazar section and construction of Cox’s Bazar station. The existing station at Dohazari will also be upgraded.

The work will require the construction of 36.8km passing loops and sidings and 11 stations.

The Bangladesh government is contributing Taka 60.34bn to the Taka 180.34bn project with the remaining Taka 120bn being financed by the Asian Development Bank.
