VIENTIANE, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Feasibility study of a proposed railway to link Lao capital Vientiane with Vung Ang Seaport in Vietnam has been completed, officials said on Thursday.

Officials and experts from Laos, Vietnam and South Korea met in Vientiane on Thursday to finalize the study which began in 2015.

The feasibility study recommended the speed of 150 km per hour as the most appropriate train speed.

With 3 million U.S. dollars in grant funding from South Korea, the feasibility study assessed the proposed 555-km railway, which would pass through Thakhaek, the provincial capital of Khammouane in Laos.

The project has been supported by Korea International Cooperation Agency.

The Vientiane-Thakhaek-Mu Gia-Vung Ang railway is one of the six rail network projects being considered by Laos to transform the country from being land-locked to land-linked.

The others are the Laos-China railway, Savannakhet-Lao Bao to the Vietnamese port of Dongha, Thakhaek-Savannakhet-Pakxe-Vangtao, and Pakxe-Veunkham (Lao-Cambodian border), said Vientiane Times.
