People in Changsha will be able to travel to Hong Kong by train next month as the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Railway is expected to open in September.
According to Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Co, the Hong Kong section is currently in its trial phase and the West Kowloon Station has finished preparations. The train has been named Vibrant Express.
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Railway consists of seven stations and runs through four cities, namely Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. After opening, Hong Kong will be directly linked with China's nationwide railway network and be accessible to 16 major inland cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Changsha. It will take only 3.5 hours to reach Hong Kong from Changsha South Station.
A new border control clearance plan was also announced by the MTR Co, which means two immigration inspections will be established in one station, and inspections will last only five minutes. Passengers arriving in or leaving Hong Kong can quickly complete immigration clearance directly at West Kowloon Station.
Passengers can take the high-speed train from Changsha South Station to Shenzhen North Station, and then transfer to the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Railway to West Kowloon Station. Tickets from Changsha to Hong Kong start at 460 yuan.
