Designs for a new high-speed railway to be built along the Yangtze River in South Jiangsu were approved recently by China Railway and the Jiangsu government.

The new railway is set to link with the Shanghai-Nantong Railway in Taicang, Jiangsu province. Jiading has three stations on this railway, respectively in Xuhang town, Anting town, and Huangdu town. Therefore, after the new railway's completion, residents of Jiading district, a suburban area in northwestern Shanghai, will be better connected with Jiangsu province.

It is hoped that the railway will boost the urbanization, and the industrial optimization and upgrading of the cities along its route.

It is also hoped that ties between the cities on the railway and Shanghai will be strengthened, in turn promoting the balanced and sustainable development of the regional economy.

The high-speed railway will have a planned running speed of 350 kilometers per hour. With a total length of 278.53 km, it will have altogether eight stations located in Nanjing, Zhenjiang's county-level city Jurong, Changzhou's Jintan district and Wujin district, Wuxi's county-level city Jiangyin, as well as Suzhou's county-level cities Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang.

According to the Jiangsu government, the construction of the railway will begin by the end of September this year and last for around 42 months.
