The first medium-low-speed maglev train made by CRRC Dalian Co Ltd was finally completed in Lushunkou district, Dalian, Liaoning province on Nov 2.

Using magnetic levitation to move vehicles without touching the ground, a maglev line removes vibration and friction between train wheels and the rail track, and can run at a speed of up to 121 km per hour in the most recent experiment. The train also has better shock and sound proofing capabilities, with a lower cost and shorter construction period than other traditional trains.

Compared with traditional rail transportation, the new maglev trains are more cost efficient over their service life and also quieter. In addition, the new maglev trains have greater climbing ability and curve pass capability than traditional rail stock, which may reduce the cost of infrastructure construction.

The new train will connect the main urban area of Dalian with the outer districts of the city, promoting the development of high-end industrial clusters including local rail transit, new materials and maglev technology.
