Germany's rail company Deutsche Bahn (DB) and the railway and traffic union (EVG) are resuming wage negotiation on Tuesday after a nationwide warning strike by EVG severely restricted rail traffic throughout Germany on Monday.

According to DB, long-distance rail services in Germany came to a complete standstill on Monday morning local time. Regional rail traffic and rail freight services in Germany were "massively affected" by the warning strike as well. The restrictions in rail traffic continued throughout the entire day and caused chaos among train passengers and commuters.

Wage negations between DB and the Union of German train drivers (GDL) will also continue on Tuesday, prior to the meeting between DB and the German railway union.

DB manager Martin Seiler saw the negotiations with the GDL "close to their goal", the German press agency dpa reported on Tuesday.
