The Hungarian capital's busiest international railway station "Keleti" will be closed from May 13 to May 26, the Hungarian national railway company MAV announced in a statement published here on Monday on its official website.

"Due to maintenance works, Budapest Keleti Railway Station will be closed from May 13 until May 26, which will affect several train schedules, routes, and terminals," reads the statement.

The passengers will be redirected to the Hungarian capital's two other international railway hubs "Nyugati" and "Deli" railway stations. Keleti Railway Station serves 420 trains per day.

"During the complete closure of the Keleti Railway Station, previously planned maintenance works will be carried out on the tracks, points, traffic control devices, overhead contact line network, and on the platforms," the statement explains. The works can only be carried out when the railway service is completely interrupted, MAV adds.

As a result of the refurbishment, the operation of the various devices at Keleti Railway Station will improve schedules, and reduce the number of technical failures.
