Passenger can enter the railway station in a few seconds by scanning their faces and identity cards, if a match is found with their booking information.
"Facial recognition improves check-in efficiency in handling large crowds," said a staff member at the Guiyang Railway Station. "The technology increases check-in speed by five to 10 times faster than manual checks."
The first eight facial scanning check-in machines were set up at Guiyang North Station in 2017. However, the automatic check-in step was complicated at the time. "For example, passengers should fold their identity card and ticket together, with the QR code of the ticket on the top and in front. They then should insert them in a card slot and scan their face," said the staff member. "We had to remind passengers of these details, which increased our work."
"But now the system of check-in machines has been updated. Passengers, free of tickets, can get in the station by only using their face and ID card," he added.
