Railway police in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong province, have cracked a drug trafficking case, with 39 suspects arrested and 17 kg of heroin seized, local authorities said Saturday.

On January 27, 2019, the police received a tip-off that a 22-year-old man surnamed Zhu from Boxing County, Shandong, was suspected of trafficking drugs via the G286 train from Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, to Jinan.

With the assistance of the railway police in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan province, the police arrested the suspect on the train and seized about 2.1 kg of heroin in the bottom mezzanine of the suspect's trolley case.

After further investigation, the police busted the trans-provincial drug smuggling ring and arrested a total of 39 suspects.

In the first half of this year, the gang had obtained drugs in Myanmar and directed its members to traffick the drugs to provinces including Shandong, Shaanxi and Yunnan via high-speed railway, transporting a total of 17 kg of heroin, said the police.
