Southwest China's Guizhou province looks to have more overseas students from ASEAN countries to exchange experiences and advanced concepts in rail transit, due to its efforts to promote cooperation in this area.

The province's determination was obvious during the 4th China-ASEAN Rail Transit Education Training Alliance annual meeting. As part of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, the meeting took place in the province's Guian New Area from July 22-23.

Close to the ASEAN region, Guizhou plays an important role along the China-ASEAN High-speed Railway, which calls for an increasing number of maintenance staff for the project.

According to the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Sanya Declaration signed on March 26, 2016, China will team up with Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam to improve talent training and enhance national strengths through the interconnected transportation network.

As one of the hosts of the annual meeting, Guiyang Vocational and Technical College has been designated as the training base for rail transit students. It will receive its first 29 students from Thailand for a one-year training course.

The college disclosed its plan to recruit more overseas students from ASEAN countries, establish training classes and work stations in Laos, as well as to form deeper cooperation in Chinese and Lao languages with the country.
