A metro train carrying passengers derailed on Tuesday morning near Hung Hom station. Eight passengers were mildly injured in the incident, according to the MTR.

Passengers had to evacuate in the middle of the train rack near the Hung Hom station.

The police said it has received call for help. Service between Hung Hom and Mong Kok East was suspended for now.

Secretary for Transport and Housing Frank Chan Fan inspected the scene.

MTR is looking into the cause of the incident. It is expected that the rail operator will meet with the press around 11:30 am.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, part of train carriages of a metro train moving into the station detached from the train and derailed in the middle of the train rack. Some passengers inside the carriages were shaken to the floor consequently.

One of the affected passenger, surnamed Cheung, who was in the fourth carriage, said they waited for ten minutes before going to the first carriage to get out of the train.

"There was no panic or screaming, but we were all baffled as we didn't know what happened," said Cheung.

Cheung said they walked through the train rack, covered with pointy stones, for five minutes before people in MTR vests came to help them.

Earlier in March, two metro trains on test run collided into each other in Central station. Two train captains were mildly injured. No passengers were on board at that time. Two trains were in bad shape with glasses smashed, seats uprooted and handrails distorted. The MTR said the collision happened when it was testing the new signaling system.
