The first fully automated driverless train for Taiyuan Metro Line 2 arrived at the metro line's construction site in Taiyuan city -- capital of North China's Shanxi province -- and started static testing and adjustments on May 4, according to local officials.

Taiyuan Metro Line 2 has adopted A-type stainless steel vehicles, which have higher corrosion resistance, officials said.

They also have lower operation and maintenance costs, higher safety and comfort and are more eco-friendly compared with traditional aluminum alloy vehicles generally used in metro lines across China.

The metro vehicles also use fully automated driverless technology, representing the highest level of metro design and manufacturing in the country.

The first-phase project of Taiyuan Metro Line 2 -- with a length of 23.65 kilometers -- starts from Renmin South Road Station in the south and ends at Xijianhe Station in the north, passing 23 stations in total.

The track for the line has been completed and 23 stations are undergoing decoration and ventilation, drainage and power system construction.
