A new extension of Bangkok's Green Line rail system is scheduled to open for daily commuters next month, according to a senior government official.

The new Green Line extension for BTS skytrains linking Kasetsart station with Wat Phra Sri Mahathat station on the northern suburbs of the Thai capital will open next month as planned, confirmed Deputy Permanent Secretary for Transport Pisak Jitviriyavasin on Wednesday.

It is yet to stretch further north to Khu Khot station in the neighboring Pathum Thani province, which is scheduled to open in December, Pisak said.

Last December, Kasetsart station opened along the Green Line of the BTS skytrains, operated by Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc.

Also known as Sukhumvit Line, the Green Line was designed to connect the city's eastern outskirts with its northern ones. Enditem
