BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Tuesday marked the ninth anniversary of the launch of Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, one of China's busiest high-speed rail lines.

As of Tuesday, about 1.11 million trains have run on the line with an excellent safety record.

Construction of the railway network began on April 18, 2008, and the line opened to the public for commercial service on June 30, 2011.

With a total length of 1,318 km and linking the capital with the eastern coastal economic hub of Shanghai, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway is the world's longest high-speed line ever constructed in a single phase.
