Oct 26 marks the 10th anniversary of the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed rail, local media reported.

The railway spans 202 kilometers and has a max speed of 350 km per hour. It can travel between the two major metropolitans in East China within an hour and has served around 400 million passengers, with an average of 100,000 passengers per day.

There are currently over 160 trains running between the two cities every day, providing strong support for the development of the Yangtze River Delta region.

The Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway has steadily improved over the past 10 years. The interval between trains during rush hours was reduced to just five minutes in the first few days of operation. One year later, on Sept 22, 2011, passengers were able to buy train tickets online, and three months later, they could use their ID cards to enter or leave the station, without the need for paper tickets. Starting June 1, 2013, passengers holding a bank card issued by China Railway & Banking Expresspay Co were able to scan their card to enter the station. And from Nov 12 of last year, tickets became entirely digital.
