17 November 2011. Cologne, Germany. Railway Interiors Expo 2011, the world’s only exhibition dedicated to showcasing railcar interior technologies, designs, materials, components and concepts, was hailed a resounding success by all who have attended! The show, which opened on Tuesday 15th November and ran for three days, attracted almost 2,000 attendees from almost 50 countries.
Graham Johnson, Managing Director at UKIP Media & Events, the international exhibition and publishing company that organises Railway Interiors Expo, said, "We're absolutely delighted that this truly global Expo has been such a success already. Everyone here agrees: this is unquestionably the best show and the must-attend event for anyone involved in specifying or designing next-generation railcar interiors.
"Exhibitors and visitors have clearly really enjoyed the show: we've witnessed people looking at purchasing railcar interior technologies, components, materials and concepts throughout the exhibition hall! With over 120 exhibitors, visitors are guaranteed to discover innovation; to find new ways to improve efficiency and passenger comfort as well as increase capacity.
"I've personally met numerous senior figures at Railway Interiors Expo from all of the world’s major railcar manufacturers as well as numerous key personnel from railway operators as far afield as Thailand!"
“For our business, this is the perfect show,” added David Crisp, PCC’s chairman. “It’s the right people, in the right place!”
Johnson wasn’t alone in his enthusiasm: Gareth Lunsdaine, system manager at PCC, the company displaying its latest PRM TSI-compliant toilet module to the great interest of rail operators, said, “That’s one of the reasons we come to the show: obviously we show off the product, but we also get feedback to see if we’ve met everyone’s expectations and requirements.” “For our business, this is the perfect show,” added David Crisp, PCC’s chairman. “It’s the right people, in the right place!”
Also drawing attention was Iseat Flow, a sleek new railway seat prototype from a Portuguese consortium. Its seat includes cork composites and controls that are integrated below the leather of the armrest. “We have a lot of people interested in what we are showing,” said Jose Rui Marcelino, design manager at Alma Design, one of the partners on the project. “Yesterday morning we had no time to listen to the conference because there were so many people here!”
“We saw several items that could be interesting, so we will contact several people we met here to progress what’s possible on our trains”
Alse Dijkstra, of NedTrain’s fleet management department
Visitors, including many key decision makers from OEMs and rail operators, were also delighted with the Expo. “I found several suppliers available and compliant with my requirements,” said Jean-Francois Baudin, TLS platform sourcing director for renovation at Alstom, who was looking for “seats, covers, composite materials, everything that could be involved in refurbishments”. Meanwhile Alse Dijkstra, of NedTrain’s fleet management department, was researching cleaning solutions at the Expo that could be factored into the design of trains. “We saw several items that could be interesting, so we will contact several people we met here to progress what’s possible on our trains,” he said.
There were innovations to see throughout the exhibition, with new technologies including the new wheelchair securement systems from Q’Straint; a truly black grade of silicone rubber from Primasil; a new interior antenna and fibre optic cables from Huber + Suhner; and a four-channel satellite receiver from Molpir, which enables operators to incorporate live TV on in-seat monitors. “Very important people are coming to the show as visitors – perfect visitors for us” said L’ubor Lazar, project manager of Molpir. “It’s a very important show for us, a very good show.”
