China’s Locomotive Wins Praise for Its Debut in “Australia”

On March 21, a reporter learns from CSR Ziyang that the company’s first six locomotives exported to Australian SCT Company which owns independent intellectual property rights and AC drive technology successfully pass the traction performance test in Australia. The general manager of SCT sends a congratulatory telegram to congratulate that CSR Ziyang’s dual-locomotive dragging 8080 tons of cargo smoothly passes the largest ramp of Pimba Bank 1/100 higher than the technical requirements, passes the traction performance assessment, and fully meets Australian Standard and customer specific requirements. He praises that “Chinese locomotive is excellent”. 

On January 8, 2012, after 13 months of research and development, 6 vehicles were shipped at the Shanghai Port to Australia. On February 21, six vehicles completed the preparedness work. On February 27, the tests of trunk line signal compatibility, noise, vibration, and braking kicked off. On March 5, the locomotive entry test was finished and the vehicles won on-line operational qualification in Australia including ARTC, Railcorp, WestNet, GWA and other entry qualifications of Australian rail regulatory agencies. 

At 10 am of March 15, CSR001 and CSR002 locomotives start from Penfield Base of Adelaide in South Australia, pulling 88 freight cars to Rankin Dam over 900km away to perform the mine transport task of IMX. After cargo loading tasks in Rankin Dam, the dual heavy locomotives tow 8080 tons of cargo from Rankin Dam at 8:30 am of March 16 and pass the maximum ramp of the Rankin Dam and Adelaide line at 16:00 local time, which marks CSR Ziyang’s locomotives complete all tests in Australia and will be officially delivered to customers for transportation tasks. 

In the meantime, a number of operating companies in Australia express interests in the locomotive performance through different channels. Some companies clearly state their purchase intents. More than 10 media of Australian rail industry provide tracking reports on the entire delivery process from unloading the locomotives to the final traction performance test. 

According to sources, SCT Company will arrange the first batch of six locomotives for IMX ore transportation, six train groups a week. The second batch of four locomotives will be used for container transport from Adelaide to Perth.
