China completed the drilling of nearly 13-kilometer-long tunnel on high-speed railway network for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei province, on Nov 11.

The construction of the tunnel, the longest on Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway route, began in September 2016 and was named Zhengpantai tunnel.

The double-track tunnel links Beijing to Zhangjiakou, where most of the Olympics' alpine skiing events will take place.

When the 2022 Winter Olympics starts, it will take passengers only three minutes to cross the 12.974 km tunnel.
With dozens of award winning scientific and technology innovations, the engineers and workers conquered the complicated geological conditions by increasing the number of side and drainage cavities.
